Why there is no builder to learn

For nineteen years we have made software that lets people build their own databases, forms and client portals. In all that time one thing did not change: the people who needed it most were the ones least willing to learn it. They had a business to run.

Quinta SI is what we built when we stopped arguing with that.

What a builder costs

A builder gives you a blank canvas and a palette: field types, layouts, rules, permissions. It is honest work and it is powerful. It also asks a question of everyone who opens it: do you want to become the person who knows how this works?

Most people do not. They want repair orders tracked. So they choose a template that is nearly right, live with the parts that are not, and the builder they are paying for sits unused behind a screen they are a little afraid of.

What we removed

In Quinta SI there is no canvas, no palette and no settings page for a field. You say what you need and it is built. You say what is wrong and it changes. SI is what comes after AI: the work of turning what you mean into structure is no longer yours.

What that costs you

It would be dishonest to say nothing. If you are the person who enjoys the canvas — who knows exactly which field goes where and would rather click it than explain it — Quinta SI will feel slower to you, at first. You will type a sentence for something you could have dragged.

We made that trade deliberately. For every person who loves the canvas there are many who never got past it.

What you still control

Removing the builder does not mean removing your say. Your data is yours: you see every row, and you take all of it out whenever you want. Who may see what is decided by you, in your words, and Quinta SI asks before it changes that. It asks before it deletes anything. You can have it keep track of changes to your records and tell you when they happen.

You gave up the palette. You kept the decisions.

Who should not use it

If your work is unusual enough that you need to place every element yourself, and you have the time and the taste for it, a builder is the right tool and you should use one. Quinta SI is for the larger group: people who know their business completely and have no wish to learn ours.
